On 12th, July 2009, Eye4you Alliance island had over 20 TSL residents and TSL Approved Adults came to the final closing down party which lasted a few hours of good party music. The island was closed due to lack of funding by The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County.  The island was closed due to lack of funding by The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County.  At some point on Sunday 19th July 2009 Eye4you island went offline and then was removed by Linden Lab shortly afterwards.

Eye4you Alliance island was one of the most popular favourite teen islands on the Teen Grid since 2006 and managed to attract hundreds of visitors. The TechTG region only remains which is not currently owned or run by The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County.

Thanks to everyone that volunteered and managed the island over the years. We will never forget the good times we had together!

What fabulous times we’ve had at Eye4You.  My sincere thanks to everyone - Saryn, everyone who participated in NASA activities, all my very special friends and helpers - it has been a pleasure to work and hang out with all of you.

First things first …. It’s Summer Vacation!  WoOT!!!

Here’s some NASA  stuff to know about June …

June 3:  Ed White made the first U.S. spacewalk during the Gemini 4 mission in 1965.

June 10: The Mars Rover Spirit left Earth on this day  in 2003 to explore the surface of the red planet.  It’s still going strong after 1928 Sols … that’s 1838 Sols past it’s expected life.  His twin buddy Opportunity is still working on Mars too having logged 1907 Sols.

June 13:   STS-127 mission aboard Endeavor is targeted for launch to the International Space Station carrying the Kibo Experiment Module.  This 16 day mission will have 5 spacewalks to install 2 platforms outside the Japanese module

June 17:  This is the targeted launch date for LRO/LCROSS.  LRO is the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter which will conduct investigations to prepare and support future human exploration on the moon.  Stacked on top of LRO is LCROSS,  the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite which will work to confirm the presence or absence of water ice at the Moon’s South Pole.

Storyboarding for the TV show that will be aired on RezLibris Magazine. We welcome all teens interested in bringing their innovative ideas and helping us brainstorm a great show! The theme for this first TV show is “Technology in Libraries”.

Planning for the upcoming TV show will now take place on Sunday 10th May 2009 at 11am SLT / PDT. Contact Freda Fraina for more details!

We’re creating a TV show!! - the show will be built by teens, and will be about and FOR teens.  Filmed in TSL, it will also be available online in the SL Magazine RezLibris.  There are a lot of things that you can do to help…if you love to perform, you can be in front of the cameras, if you like to produce machinima, you can do that, if you like to write stories, we would love to have you too!

STS-125  The Hubble Space Telescope Servicing Mission 4:  The orbiter Atlantis has a target launch date of May 12th to return to the Hubble Space Telescope for repairs and upgrades to make it ready for another 5 years or more of service.

Mercury 7 50th Anniversary:  50 years ago on April 9, 1959 the first class of astronauts were introduced to the world.

Earth Day is Everyday at NASA:  Celebrate Earth Day on April 22 and learn how NASA’s Earth-observing satellites measure climate, temperature and more with this fun Earth Day Activity Booklet.

Science Friday:  Every week we meet and listen to the NPR Science Friday broadcast at the Space Camp.  This week we’ll learn about the debate over teaching evolution in school, U.S. policy on climate change, brown fat (ewww), predicting earthquakes, space gadgets (cool!!), and flotsametrics.  Come early since it’s a 3 day weekend and I’m going camping - I’m taking my telescope far from the city so I can see Saturn …
I’m thinking of changing my office hours to meet more space enthusiasts.  Let me know when *you* think would be a good time!

Science Friday is broadcasting from Arizona State University this week as part of the Origins Symposium.  The Origins Initiative at ASU consists of panels of leading scholars speaking on origins issues from evolutionary biology to nanotechnology, from human institutions to the origin of the universe. This gathering will consider questions such as:

• How did the Universe Begin?
• How did life arise?
• How does life evolve?
• What is the Origin of Human Uniqueness?
• What is the origin of disease?
• How does consciousness arise?
• How do human institutions arise and develop?
• What will be the technologies of the future?
